Our first interest area yesterday was TX. There was ongoing convection both over Amarillo and along the TX/LA border. We anticipated further convective initiation in the Fort Worth and Houston Center area due to the remaining boundaries from the two areas of convection. Towards the end of the day, we did indeed see development of thunderstorms, though the Cloud Top Cooling (CTC) detection seemed to struggle with the cirrus shields extending through the area. As the two main areas of convection converged, both Fort Worth and Houston Centers saw significant impacts and constrains.
We were also keeping an eye on the lower Great Lakes, particularly eastern PA and western OH. There was a broad area of showers and embedded thunderstorms advancing through the Northeast in the morning, causing a number traffic delays and constraints due to low clouds. However, we also anticipated further convective development in the area in and around Cleveland Center. Later in the afternoon we did see some CTC detections in that area as a line of isolated cells developed. These storms caused significant impact to all of the New York Centers, as well as both Washington and Philadelphia Centers as heavily traveled east-west routes were impacted.
