Convection Update: Miami Center and the Northeast

As expected, convection is still ongoing in the Gulf of Mexico and more development has occurred over southern FL. The Cloud Top Cooling (CTC) Algorithm showed several detections in southern FL in earlier runs, and as noted by the image below, the cells in that area are fully mature. These storms are now causing traffic constrains at Miami Center.

The CTC algorithm is also beginning to show some detections in the Northeast (noted in the blue scalloped area of interest). The base reflectivity is still relatively quiet, with only a few cells noted in area, though slow development of shallow cells is still anticipated as the afternoon progresses. Look for possible traffic constraints in New York, Philadelphia, and Boston Centers.
