The observed water vapor imagery from 1032 UTC this morning showed a broad area of transverse wave cloud activity along the eastern edge of the cirrus shield (IL/MO) associated with dissipating convection/MCS in the Central U.S. These wave clouds caused a fairly significant number of turbulence reports from various larger aircraft including a number of 737s, an A320, a DC10, and an MD88. Note that the WRF simulated water vapor imagery forecast for the morning (the F014 image valid at 1400 UTC is shown below) did a great job of indicating the possibility for wave cloud activity.
