Good morning! The first day of the Winter Experiment at the AWT has kicked off. I'll be posting updates periodically throughout each day on the areas of interest, forecasts, and associated GOES-R tools used.
To begin, our AIRMET Sierra (ceiling and visibility) FA desk is focusing on three main areas producing low clouds, one of which is associated with a cold front along the Gulf Coast. The synthetic band difference is indicating a fairly extensive stratus plume extending on shore, particularly over W. TX by late this afternoon and evening. Additional areas of fog and low ceilings are expected along in the Pacific NW and northern New England. Check out the 06 and 09 hour forecasts below as well as the current areas of IFR conditions as indicated by the GOES-R Fog and Low Stratus.
