- Experimental CAWS Desk While the CAWS has been in demonstration mode for several months, this experiment will focus on potential changes to the CAWS including additional components, terminology, and production techniques. We will be utilizing a main production desk and two support desks. Additionally, we will be taking advantage of collaboration via designated chat rooms and the suite of experimental and operational data sets for guidance.
- Tropical Forecast Desk The focus at this desk is exploring alternative graphical forecasts of significant wind, precipitation and cloud cover for Gulf and Caribbean. Participants at this desk will evaluate 32-km resolution products and any experimental data covering that domain and with offshore capabilities.
- Cloud (ceiling) and Visibility Desk The main focus of this desk will be to test the use of Graphical Forecast Editor software on AWIPS2 for creating Ceiling and Visibly products on a national scale.
- Satellite Support The Satellite Support Desk will serve as an extension of the satellite products and support available at each desk within the experiment, both the N-AWIPS and AWIPS-2 systems. It will include a variety of next generation satellite products and focus on providing up-to-date satellite-based support and situational awareness for all of the aforementioned tasks at each desk.
The Aviation Weather Development and Evaluation (AWDE) group at the FAA Technical Center in Atlantic City, NJ will be will be running a parallel testbed experiment assessing the human factors component of the CAWS from the end-user perspective.
