Day 3: Turbulence and EDR near ATL

One of our more recent additions to the testbed is the Eddy Dissipation Rate (EDR) turbulence reports. These reports, collected from various United and Delta 757 and 737 aircraft, provide in situ observations of atmospheric 'sea-state' as oppose to aircraft reaction as noted in PIREPs.

Check out the loop below of this morning's visible imagery overlaid with the EDR reports. Note the significant amount of reports surrounding ATL and also the widespread gravity wave activity in the visible imagery associated with a very strong jet aloft over the SE U.S.
